Throughout all of the stories the one that caught my interest the most was the story about Wal-Mart. Everybody knows Wal-Wart is a super power and that it can completely diminish smaller mom and pop shops. It is no surprise to me that to build a new Wal-Mart it is a major process. Wal-Mart is a great store with great prices, but they overpower local shops that are just trying to make a living.

As of 2005 Wal-Mart was one of the biggest companies in the world. With more girls working at Wal-Mart then guys I ask the question, do girls do a better job at customer service than guys? Or do girls do a better job in general? I do not understand why they would hire more girls than guys. Men are supposed to be the bread winner in the family (Not as much in recent times, but several years ago) so why wouldn’t Wal-Mart give males the majority of the jobs rather than females? Is it because they give their workers minimum wages and food stamps? Since the workers’ salary came up I want to emphasize how disgusted I am that the workers only get minimum wage. How are people to support a family on minimum wage? Wal-Mart is one of the biggest companies in the world, they have enough money to give their workers 100 dollars an hour. It makes me upset when I hear facts like that because so many families are struggling to survive and Wal-Mart doesn’t do anything for its employees.

Good commentary on some of the problems presented in the text. Where do you think the role of media is in all of this? Good post.
