The story most compelling to me was the one about Wal Mart. I have heard about Wal Marts moving into little towns and taking over everything and destroying the environment but it is rare to see people to stand up to such a big corporation. Wal Mart and other big corporations always do what they want because they are so big and have so much money that no one can go against them. I was not surprised to find out that they do not treat their workers fairly and do not pay them well. I was however surprised to find
out that women workers are the majority there.
After hearing that Wal Mart had to stop projects to continue building I was glad because this shows that the people have a voice in the
community. Stopping Wal Mart from building a store in the wetland was a big wake up call for them. The people finally stood up to this big corporation and didn’t let it win. It also unified people in the community by fighting for one cause.
I’d like to ask Eesha, do you think that media should cover more stories like this and what do you think it will do for the big companies that they are going against? In other words, when people wrote this story on Wal Mart do you think that people will view Wal Mart negatively and will it affect their decision to shop there?
